In his Keynote Speech to a packed audience of more than 500 guests of 1st Exchange, Richard Scase outlined some of the key challenges facing the retail financial services sector. In an on-line world, he talked about the need for corporate branding and the growing importance of IFAs to develop ‘trusted adviser’ status with their clients. This means giving greater priority to face-to-face dialogue so that products can be delivered on a personalised rather than a commoditised basis. This inevitably incurs higher costs but offer the only competitive advantage that independent IFAs have over the more commoditised on-line providers. In future IFAs need to be multi-expert in both the on- and off-line offer of financial services.
