Some Global Trends: Emerging Investment Opportunities
for Citywire Ltd at Hyatt Hotel Zurich
19 May 2010
Flying from a consultancy project in Shanghai, Richard Scase gave the keynote address to a conference of European investment fund managers, sponsored by Citywire, the financial information services company. He outlined some of the ‘hidden aspects’ of globalization and how this was making the categorization of investment funds according to asset classes such as region and economic sector increasingly redundant. Stock-picking was now the order of the day and this demanded pro-active local knowledge that was both expensive and resource intensive if investor performance was to be of high value. This, he said, raised the issue of tracker funds and whether there were regional or sector ‘tracks’ to follow as in the past.
