Profile

Richard Scase is the author and co-author of twenty three books. His most recent, published in 2006, is Global Remix (Kogan Page) which discusses the impact of the emerging economies of India and China for businesses and governments in the 21st century. His other books include Living in the Corporate Zoo (Capstone Wiley, 2002); the highly influential Britain in 2010 (2000) that was originally commissioned by the UK government; and Managing Creativity (Open University Press, 1998). His other books cover a broad range of issues including: work-life balance; corporate restructuring; managerial careers; entrepreneurship and business growth; and issues of social inclusion and citizenship. Many of his books have been translated into languages as diverse as Japanese, Mandarin, Korean and Rumanian.

He has written more than eighty refereed scholarly articles that have appeared in journals such as Journal of Management Studies; International Small Business Journal; International Journal of Human Resource Management; Human Relations; British Journal of Sociology; Industrial Relations Journal and International Journal of Corporate Law and Industrial Relations.

He sits on the editorial boards of the International Small Business Journal; International Journal of Human Resource Management; Market Leader and Critical Eye Review.

His research has been funded by major grants obtained competitively from the Economic and Social Research Council (the final report of the most recent was rated as "outstanding"); the European Union; Office of Science and Technology; and the United Nations. The outcome of his research has been published in more than twenty five reports that have been submitted to funding bodies and as four major research monographs. These include Britain in 2010 (Cabinet Office); Fit and Fifty (All Party Committee of MPs); Europe in 2010 (EU) and Regional Futures (Housing Corporation).

He is also a frequent contributor to BBC radio and television programmes as well as writing for Management Today, Strategic Human Relations and for national newspapers and magazines on business and management topics. He has regular masthead columns in Business Voice (the official publication of the Confederation of British Industry) and CIO-Connect (a publication for corporate Chief Information Officers).
